The Sala

What’s a sala?

Somewhere you’ll want to spend lazy days. A sala is the Thai word for an outdoor room or platform – with a roof for shade. Our sala sits poolside and has extensive ocean views along Koh Samui’s coastline to Koh Phangan.

Sun or shade?

Enjoy tons of tropical outdoor space on the pool level: sunshine when you want it (and shade when you definitely don’t). Six pool beds share three large pool umbrellas, and every pool bed has a built-in tray table for your book, sunscreen and a cold drink.

A few steps down from the pool you’ll find yet another space to hang out – an area with the original name “outdoor living room”. This space is in glorious shade until late afternoon. Two bedrooms adjoin this outdoor space so it’s a great communal spot for a smaller group or all eight guests.

Pool FAQs

No, the pool is not heated artificially. As is customary in Thailand, the pool is heated by direct sunshine only, which means it is warm for most of the year but can feel cooler ("a bit brisk") after heavy rain or during cooler winter months (often November, December and early January). At its warmest, the record water temperature has reached over 30°C (86°F).
No, the pool is unfenced and directly accessible from the pool deck, with a steep drop on the other side of the infinity edge. Because of this drop and safety considerations, inflatable pool toys are strictly prohibited. Children must be supervised at all times, and a waiver is required for safe conduct around the pool.
The 14-metre (nearly 46-foot) freshwater infinity pool uses hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine to sterilize the water, which immediately breaks down in the sunshine into water and oxygen to give it a silky feel (without green hair). It measures 1.1 metres (3.6 feet) at the shallow end, with 4 steps for shallow paddling or reading. The deep end is approximately 1.75 metres (nearly 6 feet).
